St. Teresa of Avila Is a Doctor of the Church With a Feast Day Worthy of Pilgrimage

St. Teresa of Avila was born in 1515 in Ávila, Spain, and entered the Carmelite convent as a young woman.

Over time, she became known for her reform of the Carmelite order, emphasizing a return to prayer, simplicity, and devotion. Together with St. John of the Cross, she helped establish the Discalced Carmelites, a branch of the order committed to stricter observance.

In addition to her work as a reformer, Teresa was a gifted spiritual writer and mystic. Her works, including The Interior Castle and The Way of Perfection, remain classics of Catholic spirituality. She died in 1582, was canonized in 1622, and later declared a Doctor of the Church, one of the first women to receive that title.

Can you think of another saint as worthy of a pilgrimage? Neither can we, which is why we invite you to join us for one in honor of her Feast Day on October 15th:

Welcome to St. Teresa of Avila, " Where Families Grow in Faith."

Tucked away in the heart of Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Teresa of Avila - and the other churches of the area's Westside Catholic Family of Parishes - is on a mission to reach the community "through authentic worship, strong devotion, and loving outreach."

How do they do this? In the case of St. Teresa of Avila, they start with a beautiful place to celebrate the mass, complete with pillars, stained glass windows, and an intricate marble altar.

Mass at St. Teresa of Avila is celebrated Monday through Friday at 7 a.m., Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and Sunday at 9 a.m.

In addition to mass, pilgrims at St. Teresa of Avila are also invited to participate in the sacrament of reconciliation (Monday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m., and Saturday at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.) and in adoration (Saturday at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.).

What's a faithful community without special events? St. Teresa of Avila has those, too, complete with guest speakers, Holy Hours, and traveling exhibits.
