There Is No Place Like The Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle
Apostle.
Evangelist.
Saint.
St. Matthew is known by many titles, and because of this, he is well-known and venerated in the Christian tradition. That said, we couldn't let his Feast Day on September 21st go by without making a pilgrimage! But first, let us dive a little more into his story and what makes him so special:
St. Matthew was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and the author of the first Gospel in the New Testament. Before following Christ, he worked as a tax collector in Capernaum—a profession often despised by the Jewish people of his time. According to the Gospels, Jesus called Matthew while he was at his tax booth, and Matthew immediately left everything to follow Him.
Matthew’s Gospel emphasizes Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy and contains key teachings such as the Sermon on the Mount. Tradition holds that after Pentecost, Matthew preached the Gospel in regions such as Ethiopia and Persia, eventually suffering martyrdom for his faith.
Let us pay homage to this great saint with an unforgettable pilgrimage?
