Observe Our Lady of Sorrows' Feast Day At This Jaw-Dropping Basilica
It's the middle of September, and that can only mean one thing: It is time to observe the Feast Day of Our Lady of Sorrows (September 15):
The Feast Day of Our Lady of Sorrows honors the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title that recalls the seven sorrows she endured in connection with the life, passion, and death of her Son, Jesus Christ. These sorrows, drawn from Scripture, include events such as the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, the loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple, and Mary’s presence at the foot of the cross.
The devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows dates back to the Middle Ages and was promoted by the Servite Order, which encouraged meditation on Mary’s suffering as a means of growing closer to Christ. The feast reminds the faithful of Mary’s unique participation in the redemption of the world through her compassion and unwavering faith, making it a meaningful day to honor her with prayer, reflection, and even a pilgrimage.
How will we honor Mother Mary and this important day in the Church? We recommend making a pilgrimage to the Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica:
