Holy Hill Is An Unforgettable Place to Honor Mother Mary, Help of Christians
Are you ready to take another Marian pilgrimage? So are we!
This time, we are honoring Mary, Help of Christians.
The title Mary, Help of Christians has been part of Catholic devotion for centuries, but it was officially recognized with a feast day on May 24th by Pope Pius VII in 1815. After being imprisoned by Napoleon and later unexpectedly released, the pope attributed his freedom to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and established the feast in thanksgiving.
The devotion gained further popularity through St. John Bosco, who had a deep love for Mary under this title and built the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin, Italy. Mary, under this title, is often invoked for the protection of the Church, especially during times of difficulty or persecution.
In honor of this great feast day, let us take a trip to beautiful Hubertus, Wisconsin:
Welcome to the Basilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hill (or just Holy Hill for short)!
Spanning a stunning 435 acres, Holy Hill is billed as a "destination for those looking to celebrate their faith in a sacred place of peace, beauty and prayer."
Wait until you see why...
Attracting hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and tourists every year, the Holy Hill experience begins at the Basilica, complete with the Shrine Chapel, Chapel of St. Therese, and jaw-dropping scenic tower.
Mass at the Basilica is celebrated Monday through Saturday at 6 a.m. and 11 a.m., Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., and Sunday at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 12:30 p.m. (Spanish).
After celebrating mass or partaking in the rosary and/or adoration, you are invited to explore the fascinating Shroud of Turin Replica Exhibit, enjoy breakfast or lunch in the on-site Cafe, or shop around the unique gift shop.
Unlike many pilgrimage sites, Holy Hill also offers overnight accommodations via their "New Guest House" and "Old Monastery Inn."
