Honor Our Blessed Virgin Mother at the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church
Is it just me, or have we made several pilgrimages this month for Mother Mary?
Hint: We have - isn't it wonderful?!
This time, we are honoring the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Celebrated on May 31st, the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary recalls the moment when Mary, newly pregnant with Jesus, traveled to visit her cousin Elizabeth, who was expecting St. John the Baptist. When Mary arrived, Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, recognized Mary as the Mother of the Lord, and Mary responded with her beautiful prayer of praise known as the Magnificat.
To remember this day - as described in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:39–56) - we invite you to the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church:
Located in Laurie, Missouri, the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church, is a magnificent 63-acre refuge in the heart of the Ozarks.
Billed the "Mother's Shrine," Mary, Mother of the Church "provides faith-filled and joyful outdoor Eucharistic celebrations, pilgrimages and retreats, a serene and beautiful space for prayer and reflection, and celebrations throughout the year in honor of our Blessed Mother and motherhood."
When you make your pilgrimage, you will find that there is no shortage of things to see and do at the Mother's Shrine, beginning with the jaw-dropping 14-foot stainless steel sculpture of Mary as the Mother of the Church.
Mass at the Shrine is celebrated outside from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
One of the most unique aspects of Mary, Mother of the Church, is the Mothers' Wall of Life, which features the names of mothers from around the world engraved on granite.
Depending on when you visit, you may get to participate in one of the Shrine's many special events, including a Mary crowning, guest speakers, and holiday events.
In addition to all of the above, you are invited to pray at the outdoor Stations of the Cross, venerate 169 first-class relics, and shop at the Shrine's unique gift shop.
