Celebrate the Feast Day of St. Clare at This Southwest Sanctuary
Everyone knows and loves St. Francis of Assisi, including St. Clare of Assisi, one of St. Francis' earliest followers, who is also the founder of the Poor Clares:
St. Clare of Assisi was born in 1194 into a noble family in Assisi, Italy. Inspired by St. Francis's example of living a life of poverty and devotion to Christ, Clare left her comfortable home at the age of 18 to dedicate herself entirely to God. She founded the Order of Poor Ladies, later known as the Poor Clares, and embraced a life of prayer and radical poverty.
Clare became the abbess of the community at San Damiano, where she led her sisters with wisdom and courage. One well-known story tells how she held up the Blessed Sacrament to repel invading soldiers, protecting both her convent and the town of Assisi. She died in 1253 and was canonized just two years later.
St. Clare's Feast Day is August 11th, so what are you waiting for? Join us on a pilgrimage in her honor!
