Celebrate St. Matthias' Feast Day At This Northeast Catholic Church
St. Matthias was a great man of God, so much so that he was chosen to be an Apostle after the betrayal of Judas.
The story of St. Matthias is found in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 1:15–26), where Peter and the early Christians sought someone who had followed Jesus from the beginning to take Judas’s place. St. Matthias was chosen to become one of the Twelve, thereby restoring the group and continuing the mission Jesus entrusted to the apostles.
Though Scripture doesn’t record much more about him, tradition holds that Matthias preached the Gospel in regions such as Judea, Cappadocia, and possibly Ethiopia. Like many apostles, he is believed to have been martyred for his faith.
Let us now honor St. Matthias - whose Feast Day is May 14th - by making a pilgrimage to his namesake church:
